DPRK state media publicized a decree by the country’s unicameral legislature the Supreme People’s Assembly [SPA] establishing the country’s special economic zones.  The zones fall under several categories with some designated for industrial use, agricultural use, tourism and there appear to be mixed-use zones which are identified as “special economic zones.”  In a separate decree the SPA designated parts of the the city of Sinu’iju as a special economic zone.  According to KCNA, “the sovereignty of the DPRK will be exercised” in all special economic zones.

Rough outlines of the special economic zones are below.  Geocoordinates are taken from NGA’s North Korea Gazetteer and 38 North‘s DPRK Digital Atlas.
