The Ministry of Finance has reduced the Special Commodity Levy on dates by Rs.199 with effect from yesterday.
This is to provide relief to the Muslim community during the Ramadan Fasting season. Accordingly, the new special commodity levy on dates is Rs.1. Earlier, it was Rs.200.
The relevant order has been issued by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa through the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2273/01 dated March 28, 2022. The Finance Ministry through a press release has also explained that dates have not been listed under Import Control License Regulations.
