It seems we've reached the bitterness of Winter now, where every day you go out, and surely have to de-ice the car ... thus meaning that we, and surely many others, are missing the Summer and it's beautiful friend, the sun. These guys, who very much seem to be on that wavelength, are Syd Arthur, whom relatively recently secured a Vevo account and uploaded their single, Ode To The Summer.
It opens on one of the most masterful riffs you'll hear this side of the New Year, but soon takes a different turn to what you expect when the percussion begins. It becomes a lot funkier and, actually, a lot more fitting to the Summer vibe, when it all comes together ... the original feel might be something more gritty, a bit harsher, and as though a bit of a Biffy Clyro style were about to begin, but we'd compare this much more to a lighter version of PEACE!! and, possibly along the lines of Two Door Cinema Club ... nonetheless, it's a bit of a beauty. The vocal is by no means conventional, but, like any Indie band that is sure to be successful, really fits in with the music at hand. It's seemingly obvious that Syd has not really had much in the way of technical training, but he can sure as hell hold a tune, and this Ode to the Summer-time is one that we have slowly but surely become infatuated with. We simply cannot wait for the sunshine to be our friend once again, but for now, we'll have to deal with this track as some sort of memoir to it all ... what a stunner.
Paul.
