Sometimes I Worry About Australia!

By Davidduff

Yet again I find myself owing a debt of gratitude to my regular commenter, JK, who provides this blog with a steady stream of links which are frequently, shall we say, esoteric but which from time to time burgeon into the truly weird.  Yesterday, he provided a link to a site specialising in mug shots of criminals in New South Wales during the inter-war years.  Yeeeeees, quite, but you see there's not a lot to do in Arkansas and JK has an enquiring mind!  Anyway, I was rather taken with this, er, chap, Harry Crawford by name, who was married to a widow called Annie Birkett.  Anyway, I like to think that they lived happily ever after, well, perhaps not, because three years after the wedding Annie let slip to a relative that she had discovered something rather startling concerning good ol' Harry, her husband.

Shortly there-after, she disappeared!  And shortly there-after that, Harry was arrested for murder, at which point it became clear that Harry's feminine side was rather stronger than is usual in males because he, I mean, she, was actually a woman, Eugeni Falleni, by name.  It was around about this point in the story that my mind began to boggle.  The only sensible thing I can think of to write is that sometimes I worry about my friend Andra living in such a peculiar country.

ADDITIONAL:  A second thought occurs.  The late Mrs. Annie Birkett really should have gone to SpecSavers!
