Sometimes

By Lovelybylucy @lovelybylucy

Do you have them? Those weeks where absolutely nothing seems to go right? Every now and then it feels like the universe is against you?

I do. This week is one of them. It is a week of chaos, stress, not feeling great, setbacks, things going wrong, dry lips (kidding) and more. It is just not my week. I was going to show you either what I was wearing or a peek into what I was doing for the past 2 days at Amsterdam Fashion Week, but to top it all off somehow the internet in my hotel is sabotaging my wish to upload pictures. Yes, I could go to the reception and ask if someone can fix it, or use their computer, or find other ways, but to be really very honest: I’ve had it for this week.

Now you might think: why is she telling me this, I don’t care how your week is going or if your hotel internet is working properly? I know. But very sometimes – and more often during weeks when my mood can’t get any worse – I’m annoyed by how we made a big part of the internet a place where we all need to be our best selves, share our best experiences and act like literally everything is fantastic. I actually give this subject a lot of thought – which you might expect in my line of work and with my social science background – and most of the times I’m in piece with especially social media being a space where we exaggerate, leave a lot of stuff out or even make stuff up. Not because I think it’s fine, but because I understand the process of how it got to this and because it’s not something that will change any time soon. That doesn’t make it right (if you can even speak of right or wrong which is also questionable) but for me personally, an overthinker, I can think about stuff like this for a long time and then choose to let it go. If you keep worrying about what’s wrong in the world you can go on for ever. I wasn’t planning on changing the internet by myself anyways.  And I’m not advocating to start bombarding the internet with negativity either. I’m fully aware of the fact that what I see on Facebook is not an accurate representation of peoples lives in general, but that’s fine, I know that. And so I look at Facebook as a place where my friends share their happy moments. If you look at it that way, there’s not much of a problem at all, or you can at least try to not be affected by it too much.

But every now and then, for instance when I have a really really bad week like this, stuff like this annoys me. So then when I couldn’t upload the images that I wanted to and show you anything new tonight, I just took a random picture that I liked from last year and decided to go for a little truth. Because we all know that without rain there would be no rainbow. We all have bad days. Setbacks. And you know that I’m not perfect either, nobody is. I’m a bit of a mess this week. But I decided the week ends on Friday and Saturday is called weekEND so I’m expecting the universe to come round at about midnight.

So now that I got that off my chest: how are you guys doing?
I’d love to hear about your weekend plans, thoughts on the above or anything else you’d like to share.

PS. There’s some quite interesting notes and even scientific research on the matter above. I tried my best to keep my story as short as possible and therefore gave you my summary notes for the sake of not boring you too much, but if you’re interested in the subject: this Ted Talk from Sherry Turkle is quite interesting as well ask the literature she published about the matter.

Happy Friday! :) :)
