Social Media Activist, Former Deputy Mayor Granted Bail

Maligakanda Acting Magistrate Sanjaya Dhanushka yesterday ordered that Social Media activist Priyath Nikeshala who was arrested by Thalangama Police on a complaint regarding an attack on former Kaduwela Deputy Mayor   Chandika Abeyratne be released on bail with two sureties of Rs.2.5 million each.

Nikeshala was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital citing that he was assaulted by the former Deputy Mayor. Nikeshala was arrested by the Thalangama Police. The Acting Magistrate issued the order after visiting the suspect at the hospital. Attorneys Jayantha Dehiaththale and Thanuka Nandasiri appeared for the suspect.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Mayor Chandika Abeyratne was also arrested by the Thalangama Police based on a complaint of assault on social activist Piyath Nikeshala. He was ordered to be released on bail with two sureties after being produced before Colombo Number 08 Acting Magistrate yesterday.
