Italian Serie A soccer clubs’ hopes for domestic rights bids have been met with disappointment as offers have remained below the targeted 1 billion euro annual price for the five-year period starting from 2024-2025. Consequently, a final decision on the deal has been postponed until October, as revealed by the league’s head.

The revenue generated from domestic broadcasting licenses is a critical source of income for Serie A clubs, including well-known teams such as Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter.

Despite engaging in discussions with DAZN, Sky Italia, and MediaForEurope after the initial bids were rejected as too low, the league is still working towards the ambitious goal of collecting 1 billion euros per season, according to Serie A Chief Executive Luigi De Siervo.

In an effort to explore all options and secure the best deal for their media rights, offers from broadcasters will remain valid until October 15.

Under the existing three-year deal set to expire next June, Serie A is currently earning around 930 million euros ($1 billion) per season from broadcasting rights in Italy, with DAZN holding the major share. ($1 = 0.8981 euros)
