So You Want To Sell Online?

By Lisa @Lisapatb
It is 2 years ago this week that my husband dragged me to a conference where we had FREE lunch to learn about selling online. He received a post card in the mail from Stores Online with the invitation.  What intrigued me were the ways to get to the top of the Google search engines with SEO. I had been selling SEM packages at my day job so I was quite familiar with much of the language at the seminar. I resisted going to the seminar because I thought I had no time. If only I knew then how much time I really needed I may have never attended that first conference.

We attended a seminar 2 years ago

We decided to sign up for the $35 and attend more seminars to learn about the Stores Online business. We both took a day out of work and attended an all day seminar and another one up in Boston. My husband decided to purchase one site and I decided to purchase the remaining portion to have unlimited sites. I had ideas running through my head.  It was a huge learning curve and the hardest part getting started was finding dropshippers to work with you. I finally found one to work with us on medical scrubs and our journey began. I really cannot say enough about the tech support at Stores Online. They have chat  24/7 except for major holidays. And boy did I use their tech support daily and for hours! They also have phone tech support capability but only during business hours. Building the website is done through their dashboard which took some time to get used to. Thinking back to the early days it would take me hours to set up products and pages and I can now do some of them in just minutes. I remember weekends where my husband and I did not have dinner into late in the night and being on the computer 12 straight hours.

You may have read or heard bad things about Stores Online. Soon after our first site was published we received many phone calls from attorneys asking us to join a lawsuit against them. We could not understand why - we had no issues. They apparently did have issues years prior and lawsuits were filed and things were changed.  (You can still see websites claiming they are a scam online - we had researched it before we purchased their program)  If I had any issues working in the dashboard I would go on chat or call their tech support.

Our eCommerce sites are powered by Stores Online

We also received many calls from Seattle, the SEO capital of the world trying to sell us SEO packages right after we published our first website. Everyone was promising us that they could get us to the first page of Google. Right! It takes time and a lot of effort. Things are rapidly changing online and one day you may be on the first page and the next on page 10. There is no magic potion involved. Google does seem to favor websites that are older. We have seen improvements with age and of course relevancy. We are constantly updating the websites with new products, removing out of stock items and of course blogging there and using social media.
Have you been selling things online? And if you are what type of website are you using?
