So How Come Nancy Sleeps with Him and Not Me?

By Davidduff

I refer, of course, to the open-hearted - yes, the word is 'hearted' and I do the jokes round here! - Nancy Dell'Ollio who appears to sleep with almost everybody, er, except me! And her long list of conquests includes this man:

I suppose the best thing you can say about him is that he's somewhat more striking than that forgettable Swedish football manager whose name, er, I have forgotten, but good looking, he ain't!  Where-as I am, particularly when dressed in my Long-Johns as Andra will confirm!  But, dammit, this fella' has what I definitely do not have - genius.  That's theatrical genius, of course, because he is Sir Trevor Nunn.  The two top theatrical experiences I have ever witnessed were directed by him - Les Miserables and Arcadia.  Granted, there were other geniuses involved, not least the author of Arcadia, Sir Tom Stoppard, but even so, both productions needed that "vision thang" and the drive to push these two productions to the summit of theatrical excellence.

There is an interesting article on him in The Telegraph by Elizabeth Grice.  He was the son of a carpenter and a seamstress who were wise enough to give their lad encouragement when he let it be known that he was determined to work in theater.  Also, as so often in these personal success stories, he was blessed with an intelligent and supportive teacher - and how rare are they?  According to this story, and his general reputation, he is a workaholic so quite where he finds the time to pursue all those gorgeous ladies with whom he has been associated, I do not know.

Anyway, thank you, Sir Trevor, you have given this old man enormous theatrical pleasure over the years so please keep up the good work!
