Smart Barbie Doll Gets Upgraded with Wi-Fi to Talk with Children

Soon, children won’t have to make any imaginary conversations with their dolls because this new Barbie doll is about to get very chatty.

Dubbed “Hello Barbie”, Mattel’s all new Barbie doll comes with a companion smartphone app and has ability to connect to the internet to have a fun conversation, tell jokes and even play interactive games with kids.

The magic works pretty much like Apple’s Siri. When connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, Hello Barbie gets connected with the servers of ToyTalk, which provides Barbie with what to say via its intelligent artificial intelligence engine.

“Our artificial intelligence engine is running with the content of what Barbie can say. That AI engine’s job is to decide what is best to say back,” Martin Reddy, co-founder at ToyTalk, told ABC News. “All of the logic, behavior, content is on the servers.”

Hello Barbie will be available this Fall with a retail price of $75. ToyTalk reassures that their service is kid-safe and is compliant with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. In the age of nanny cam and iCloud hacks, nothing’s safe when connected to the internet. Let’s just wait and see how long it will take for someone to hack this Barbie doll.
