Small Business = Good, Big Business = Bad

So Lindsay are you against conglomerates, mergers and acquisitions by large private players? Bill Gates, Dell, Bezos and others benefited maximally out of these mergers and takeovers via knowledge and financial transfer.

How can your market accommodate so many small ventures? You need a giant to speak for any stable economy I am afraid Microsofts, Intels and Amazons only did that.

Do you think a society can bear too many small companies without a giant integrator? how can such system be beneficial to the end user?

Dell is ok because they have a lot of competition. As long as Michael Dell has lots of competition, he will continue to be forced to produce the best product he can or he will be forced out of business.

Mergers are a disaster for consumers and even for workers. Anyway, it’s dubious whether or not they even work. One of the great things about capitalism is competition, but all capitalists are liars who say they love competition when in fact every capitalist on Earth hates competition and wants to be a monopoly.

There is no need whatsoever for huge companies. My beef against them is not necessarily their size but the fact that they almost always turn very evil as they get big. The bigger they get, the more evil they are.

In many ways, small businesses are excellent. They often treat their employees very well as if they were members of the family. Why this is I am not sure. Also their customer service is often superb. So they don’t screw either the workers or the consumers. The reason they treat consumers so well is because there is so much competition. With vast competition, if someone treats me like crap, I can just go somewhere else! Just like that! You can special order stuff, they often give me special deals on things, it’s just great!

Also they are very much in the public eye and a part of the community. Small businesses probably compete for employees too. Word gets around that this small business treats workers like crap and the community just abandons them. Also a lot of workers for small businesses can easily pack up and go work for some competing small business. A lot of small businesses are Mom and Pops and the people who run them are genuinely nice people. I suppose having to be there all day with your employees right next to you softens the heart. The employees become like family, and the average small business owner does not want to live in a dysfunctional, strife ridden family all day at work.

There are many great things about small business! Personally, I think a vibrant small business sector is necessary in any socialist society.
