Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Intelligence officials who were remanded on suspicion of influencing witnesses in the abduction and disappearance of journalist Pradeep Ekneligoda were ordered to be released on bail by Special Trial at Bar yesterday. The Bench said that the accused would be released on bail as the witnesses don’t appear to be influencing the witnesses.

The court also ordered the remand of Sumathipala Suresh Kumar a former LTTE intelligence operative from Muttur, the fourth witness in the case.

The Bench remanded the witness after considering the Attorney General’s request for giving evidence contrary to the statement made by him during the preliminary magisterial inquiry.
