Sri Lanka suffered a demoralising 0-3 defeat at the hands of two-time champions Nepal in their SAF Under-20 Football Tournament match played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, India.
The Sri Lankan junior soccerites gave a good account of themselves by holding their more fancied opponents in the first half but their defence cracked in the second half with Nepal scoring three goals to turn the game in their favour.
Nepal were able to dominate the second half with Ayush Galan breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute and they consolidated their position with back-to-back goals from Krithish Ratna and Managya Nakarami late in the second half.
Sri Lanka’s third and last preliminary round match of the tournament will be against the defending champions India on Saturday.
