Spotted at the Palm Springs Air Museum was this one-of-a-kind Skyfox prototype. The Skyfox was a low cost twin-engined jet trainer concept based on the Lockheed T-33 trainer from the 1950’s. In 1982, T-33 designer Irvin Culver and other former Lockheed employees formed Flight Concepts Inc. with the intent of modernizing the T-33 design. The business case was promising enough that Boeing acquired Skyfox in 1986, marketing Skyfox either as a complete converted aircraft from Boeing, or as a conversion kit, with the customer providing the T-33 airframe. Portugal expressed interest and the USAF evaluated the prototype but no orders ever materialized and Boeing cancelled the program. The Skyfox was featured in a 1984 episode of the TV series Airwolf.
