Skull Candy Cupcakes

By Ty Watson

Um, I love Halloween, and I especially love Halloween food. There's something that's so much fun about making regular foods into scary foods. I remember when the kids were littler they'd have class Halloween parties and I always got a call to make the food. I still do it for my family, though the kids are older so they don't have class parties.

For decorating, I use all sorts of treats, depending on the theme and the holiday, but one of my favorite things to use is Flipz. They're tasty and they come in a few different color varieties so they work really well. Also, who doesn't love a great chocolate and pretzel combo?

This year, I'm making Creepy Skull cupcakes. They're pretty simple - I use store bought cake mix and whipped fluffy white frosting, and then some white fudge Flipz with skull lollipops. A drizzle of green slime here and a drizzle of it there, and you've got green sliminess to make it a little creepier. Um, for younger kids, you might want to skip the slime.

CREEPY SKULL CUPCAKES

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box super moist vanilla cake mix
  • 1 (12 oz) jar of whipped fluffy white frosting
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water, room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 bag of FLIPZ® White Fudge
  • Skull lollipops, any color
  • 1 tube green slime sparkle gel
  • Halloween themed cupcake wrappers
How to make:

First, preheat your oven to 350-degrees F.

Next, in a medium sized bowl, or electric mixer, add the dry cake mix, eggs, water, and unsalted butter. Once everything's in the bowl, mix on medium low for about 1 minute, or until your cake mix is nice and creamy.

Next, pour 1/4 cup of batter into your favorite Halloween baking cups. After you've added the batter, give them a little shake and tap to make sure they're even. No one wants lopsided cupcakes, right?

Next, cool your your cupcake for approximately 15 minutes. Once they're cool, top with frosting and set aside. Your cupcakes doesn't need to look pretty because we're going for a messy look.

Once you've frosted your cupcakes, place the lollipop stick through the Flipz and stick it in the cupcake. I used three Flipz and I had to reduce the size of the lollipop stick (um, it was a little tall and caused the cupcakes to fall over). We definitely don't want that.

Lastly, take a little green slime and drizzle it over the Flipz and frosting. You're all done!
