The No Confidence Motions (NCMs) tendered by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have not fulfilled some requirements to be considered by the Speaker, Leader of the House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday.

He said further that with the full knowledge of the flaws they have done and despite the Speaker’s observations at the Party Leader’s Meetings of the same issue, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa is raising the same matter over and over again everyday in the Parliament wasting time and interrupting the proceedings.

“Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena instructed Sajith Premadasa, and other Opposition Party leaders including TNA MP Sumanthiran that the SJB had failed to tender the Tamil and Sinhala language copies of the NCMs to the Speaker,” the Leader of the House said. “He said that it was Sumanthiran that once made it a topic of the day in the House that the copies of a Motion had not been submitted in the House in Tamil Language and English Language so that it could not be debated. But they have failed to fulfill the requirement at this stage.”

Minister Gunawardena made this observation in response to the demand by Sajith Premadasa to take the NCM without delay.

In response to MP Premadasa’s statement over the MP Siyambalapitiya’s election as the Deputy Speaker, Minister Gunawardena said that it was over by now and he is already elected. He added one group might have won while the other lost. However he proposed to continue with the parliamentary businesses rather than wasting the precious time of the assembly.
