Six on Saturday – 16/01/2021

By Ronniejt28 @hurtledto60

Happy Saturday! It’s cold and been wet for what feels like weeks on end but shoots are beginning to appear and surely the weather will improve as we head towards spring.

Not a lot has happened in the garden over the last week and I’ve not been to the allotment this last week because it’s a quagmire up there and best left to dry out a bit. Therefore, in a quest to continue a weekly Six on Saturday, I’ve decided to introduce you to my patio paraphernalia.

1. Gary the Gargoyle

I am very fond of Gary and the love grows as he ages. I bought him many years ago when he was very white and clean. He hasn’t matured in his mood though and still looks very angry!

2. Glass Rudbekia

I bought this from a garden fair, again several years ago, it is made of glass and has stood the test of time standing tall on a long metal stem in one of my larger containers.

3. Garden Gnome

I think I’m turning into one of those people who like to have gnomes in their garden – is it something to do with growing older? This little chap caught my eye a few months ago and found his way into my trolley. Yet to be named but looking quite at home on a pot full of tulip bulbs. I am hoping he is working well as a squirrel deterrent.

4. Homemade door number

As my lounge faces the front of the building and near to where my car is parked, I tend to use my patio doors as my main entrance. I found this wooden plaque in the hedge by my parking space and thought if I painted it, put my flat number on and placed it in a flower pot it would help delivery men. So far it appears to have worked – during the daytime anyway.

5. Another squirrel deterrent

There is always a continuing battle between me protecting my spring bulbs pots and squirrels foraging for food. I expect most of you have the same issues and have developed your own ways to protect your containers. Apart from covering them with chicken wire, I have a few pots with little birds, such as the robin above, on them. So far, fingers crossed, it seems to work – let’s hope I haven’t spoken too soon.

6. Blue glass fishing float

My dear late mom gave me this fishing float very many years ago, at which time it came complete with the intricate rope netting. Unfortunately over the years it rotted and is no longer in existence. I have sometimes thought I might make a new one but it wouldn’t be the same. It is such a beautiful blue and sits comfortably on top of one of the containers.

There we are, that is my Six on Saturday for this week. There are many more on The Propagator’s blog and I’ll be popping in and out to view them too.
