Where has Summer gone? It seems like school was out just yesterday and now... there are just a few short weeks left before the lazy days of summer are gone. TEXSOM, the most prominent and influential wine education conference in the United States, is celebrating its tenth year, and returns to Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas, August 9-11, 2014.
TEXOM 2014 includes presentations by 39 Master Sommeliers, six Masters of Wine, and eight Certified Wine Educators. Seminars include regional spotlights, variety intensives, sales instruction, and industry/sommelier roundtable discussions.
TEXSOM 2014 will offer participants a chance to attend 23 different seminars, each featuring up to eight beverages. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to taste more than 200 wines for evaluation at the Grand Tasting and Awards Reception, which is sponsored by the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas. Head for the Design District Market at the Dallas Contemporary on Saturday, August 23. The Design District Market is a unique indoor and outdoor summer experience. The event not only celebrates the Design District’s community of local businesses, artists, and artisans, but it also highlights shops from all around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
FREE to the public, the Design District Market, a collaboration with Jim Lake Companies, features local artists, photographers, fashion and jewelry designers, vintage shops, and more. Enjoy August Dollar Days at the Dallas Arboretum and take advantage of $1 general garden admission and $1 Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden admission to all visitors for the entire month of August.  There will also be $1 food items, including hot dogs, small drinks and smoothies. For those looking to spend a few hours or a day at the Arboretum, guests can visit the newly opened Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden, an 8-acre interactive and scientific garden for all ages.
As always, members receive free general admission and free parking." Guests can also enjoy the Bird House Exhibit, which features fourlife-size playhouses designed by local architects. These architectural interpretations of birdhouses are located in the Lakeside Exhibit Area. Children can play in the birdhouses while learning about bird predators, bird adaptations, how they find their prey, how they camouflage themselves and survive, how they migrate, how they create nests, lay eggs and more.
