Here at carpe carmina we welcome back returnees with open arms, especially after a creative hiatus on their part; and since Watchtower should be no no-name faces to you as their luringly confident and melodiously infectious single 'Under Your Thumb' has graced this very blog four years ago, sure carried its audience (and our readers) then, let's find out together what's new about these comeback-comrades (first thing to prick up your ears on is probably that bassist Sam Knott takes the vocal lead instead of familiar frontman Jack McAllister this time (onetime?). But pre-2018 fans shouldn't be put off now, should embrace a variation instead that brings unexpected and exciting dynamics to the table).
Fast-paced and melodiously funky, there is an undeniable urge about the trio's perkily peculiar musical outing: playfully dashing and quirky rhythms rich in relentless suspense press forward with all might while fiercely thrilling and boisterous riffage advances in a frisky fashion. Short-termed quaint and breezy harmonies mingle with boldly rousing vocal verve put forward by the band's bass player; both combined eventually spurs the song's seething inner intensity even further, stresses its slightly blues-infused and trippy tone skillfully. So, what is new then? The singing, obviously (which suits 'Who Am I?' wonderfully well); the instrumental layout and genre-blending, however, stayed just the same, are commandingly convincing still, even after an extended break.
