Sineth to Captain Sri Lanka Team at Under-19 WC

Sineth Jayawardene from Royal College has been appointed as National under 19 captain for the forthcoming ICC under 19 World Cup which scheduled to be held in South Africa.

The junior selection committee headed by Ranjith Madurusinghe selected 15 member squad and three travel reserves for thie World Cup.

Sri Lanka team led by Sineth Jayawardena had bad memories at recently concluded Asia Cup when they lost to both UAE and Bangladesh and they were unable to qualify for the semi finals.

However Asia Cup travel reserve player Supun Waduge is added to original 15 member squad while Dinuka Tennakoon who played for last Asia Cup game was named as travel reserves with Manula Kularatne and Hiran Jayasundara the wicket keeper batter from St Joseph’s.

Richmond College skipper Malsha Tharupathi once again named as deputy skipper of the National under 19 team while Dinura Kalupahana the Mahinda all rounder, Dharmaraja College opener Pulindu Perera are the key players of the squad. The only international school player (Lyceum) Garuka Sanketh the paceman who was the most successful bowler of Asia Cup is in the 15 member squad which has to get approval from the Sports Minister.

Jehan Mubarak the head coach, Sampath Perera Assistant coach and specialist coaches Chamila Gamage (fast bowling), Sachith Pathirana (Spin), Gayan Wijekoon (fielding) will accompany the team with Manager former National player Jayantha Seneviratne.

Meanwhile last week former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara gave a motivation lecture to the National under 19 team and Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardena and SLC overall Consaltant Sanath Jayasuriya graced this occasion.
