“I am very happy the way Sri Lanka team played during the two test series against Australia and Pakistan and they showed fighting spirit to equal both test series “said Sri Lankan cricket head coach Chris Silverwood.
The former England player and coach said this after the second test which Sri Lanka won by 243 runs to equal the series. Actually the two spinners Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis bowled very well while middle order batter Dhananjaya de Silva made a fine knock of 109 to strengthen the side.Dinesh Chandimal showed exceptional batting form throughout the two series.
The coach further said We have done very well against two very strong teams Australia and Pakistan. The team has good team spirit and they worked hard to get success. As a captain Dimuth Karunaratne showed good leadership and he played with a back injury but fought back strongly to build up the innings during the second innings of the second test.
The Galle wicket for the first and second test against Pakistan was very good and both matches went on for five days and that produced good cricket from both teams added Silverwood.
Actually Niroshan Dickwella adopted his own style in his batting while playing reverse sweep and sweep shots. The presence of the leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was a boost for the team. Jayasuriya bowled really well while Ramesh Mendis played a good supporting role to get success said Silverwood.
The red ball cricketers have to wait until next February for the next test series against New Zealand. However white ball team members have a busy schedule taking part in the forthcoming T20 invitational tournament, Asia Cup as well as T – 20 world cup and head coach Chris Silverwood also has a busy schedule to prepare the teams .
Chris Silverwood so far has been successful as a coach with a Bangladesh test series win and series draw (1-1) against Australia and Pakistan. Meanwhile the Assistant coach Naweed Nawaz who was injured during training on July 23 at Galle has recovered and is expected to join the supporting staff as soon as possible.
