Silent Auction for the Daily Bread Food Bank

By Bewilderedbug @bewilderedbug

We are all so busy these days, because it’s that time of year – the holidays!

I must admit that this is possibly my favorite time of year – whether or not I’m in snow or in the sun, I enjoy it because everything just makes me happier, everyone seems more friendly, everyone seems excited….

But the reality for many of these people you pass on the street each day is that their holiday preparation, as family-oriented it may be, is quite stressful.  They’re not thinking about how they could afford that expensive gift for their husband or wife or child.  They’re thinking about if t here’s even going to be a Christmas dinner and if so, would there be enough for the entire family.  It’s more common than you think – did you know that between April 2010 and March 2011, 908 000 people relied on the Daily Bread Food Bank? (Daily Bread Food Bank Hunger Snapshot)  That’s a lot of people who cannot afford to feed their families.

Christmas has become a symbol of consumerism rather than what it was meant to be about – goodwill, sharing, caring, LOVE.  Let’s try to change that.  At least a little bit.

I know I warned some of you before that I was going to run a silent auction for charity this holiday, but wasn’t sure which one.  While I was doing my research, I contacted the Daily Bread Food Bank and was told that they did not reach their Fall goal and were hoping to reach their Holiday goal.  This is when I decided that I was going to do all I could to ensure they reached this goal.

The silent auction that I’m running is open until 10 pm on December 14, 2011 and all the proceeds will be going to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

If you haven’t heard about them, the “Daily Bread Food Bank is a non-profit, charitable organization that is fighting to end hunger in our communities. As Canada’s largest food bank, Daily Bread serves people through neighbourhood food banks and meal programs in approximately 170 member agencies. Your donations and support are vital to ensuring we can provide food and resources to the thousands of individuals and families across Toronto who rely on us every day.” (Daily Bread Food Bank)

So hop on over to the Silent Auction and bid on an item.  If you cannot afford to bid, please share the link as much as you possibly could – facebook, twitter, google +, foursquare, word of mouth…whatever form of communication or social media you are involved with.  Together we could help out.  Together we can make the Daily Bread Food Bank reach their goal….or at least raise $600 for them.

If you do  not want to take part in the auction please do hop on over to the Daily Bread Food Bank and donate directly and share this auction and this amazing charity!

Love you all and happy holidays lovelies!
