Should mums be putting breastfeeding pictures on Facebook?

Facebook caused uproar when they removed images from profiles claiming they violated terms of service, were these pictures discriminating, offensive in some way? Not if you class breastfeeding vulgar. But should mums be putting breastfeeding pictures on Facebook in the first place?

While mothers who posed feeding their baby with a bottle are deemed natural, a baby feeding from its mother is not allowed? Wow.

Now forgive me if I am wrong but how can Facebook justify this?

What rules are mothers breaking? They are allowed to pose on the beach wearing a bikini yet are punished for feeding their baby?

I am a breastfeeding mother, I did feed 4 out of 6 of my own children, I do admit that I never posted pictures of me feeding to Facebook and would never do so. I don’t have a problem with other women doing it, but I am not that confident feeding in front of others, let alone show it off.

I don’t see feeding my child a reason to pose and snap a photo for Facebook and do think mothers who upload albums full of their milky boobs, a little odd. Why would you make a full album? The odd picture yes, you should be proud and it’s a beautiful memoire to keep, but to me it should be a personal picture. I would not want to show off my boobs online, again personal choice.

I also wonder how my kids would feel if years later they saw themselves sucking from my boobs? Yes it’s natural and yes I would have been feeding them, but they would be saying OMG mom you have your boobs on the internet.

I credit all mothers who breastfeed as it can be difficult and I do understand the upset this decision by Facebook has caused. They are discriminating breastfeeding mothers.

The argument I have with Facebook is it allows disgusting pages and images to be uploaded, although these pages are reported by thousands, it stays, yet they remove an innocent and loving mothers feeding photo?

“Facebook has clarified its policy when it comes to photos of breastfeeding: only photos of babies actively nursing are allowed. Everything else is considered nudity and will be taken down if reported.”

You are allowed to breastfeed in public, so why not be allowed to show feeding images in public?

Facebook went on to say that the breastfeeding images that they removed were ones that had been reported? Which I find hardly likely, I personally have experiences where haters had stolen images of my babies and posted sick text across them, yet when reported they were never removed and were only done so when I involved the police.

What do you think? Should breastfeeding pictures be allowed on Facebook? Do mums need to share such personal photos?
