Shopping wins the prize for the most carefree energy of any garage rock band ever. The three-piece east London band is formed of Billy Easter, Andrew Milker and Rachel Aggs and their debut album Consumer Complaints is 35 minutes of pure riffs and the chunkiest basslines. I’ve had the lead single “In Other Words” on constant repeat and the b-side “You Are A Sort (Don’t Call Me) is even better. If you’re into clashing cymbals, interesting vocal arrangements and guitars so fuzzy and twangy that it’s impossible to stand still when you listen to them, Shopping is for you. Somewhere between Thee Oh Sees and Bikini Kill, Shopping manages to stand out from a pretty full scene of garage rock bands. Consumer Complaints recently re-issued in the States, the band will make their first ever jump across the pond this fall supporting Shannon & The Clams, which will probably be one of the best gigs you’ll ever go to.
