The e-commerce giant that accepts cryptocurrencies Shopify has made a set of blockchain commerce solutions to improve the user experience of web3-focused stores on its platform.

On February 9, , a designer on the Shopify blockchain team, said on Twitter, “we’ve launched some fresh tools to help you build tokengating apps for Shopify merchants.”

With tokegating, all eligible Shopify merchants can now set up their stores so that they can choose which token holders have access to special products, NFT drops, and bonuses and which do not.

It is advertised as an easy way for NFT Merchants to reward certain customers or make certain products exclusive.

Shopify secures ENS Domain logins with SIWE

Shopify has adopted the Sign-In with Ethereum SIWE protocol, which was created by the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and the Ethereum Foundation to provide better support for cryptocurrency wallets.

SIWE lets users sign in to Ethereum accounts and ENS Domains securely and verify their identities without giving out sensitive information like names, phone numbers, and home addresses.

Shopify has always had trouble with the idea of keeping user information private. In April 2022, a group of unhappy users sued the company and the company that made their hardware wallets, Ledger, over a huge loss of user data in 2020.

On February 9, the ENS Labs community advocate .eth tweeted about the SIWE connection with Shopify and linked to developer documentation that explained how to add the tool to Shopify stores, which made some people in the Ethereum community happy.

The Sign-In with Ethereum message statement can be changed with the Generator prop. According to the documentation, the function gets the wallet’s address, which lets you add or change your message lines to better represent your brand.

It looks like users will be able to link their Ethereum addresses through SIWE’s partnered intermediaries, like Coinbase, Fortmatic, WalletConnect, Portis, and Torus, by clicking a “sign-in with Ethereum” button once a retailer adds the SIWE feature to Shopify wallet connect.
