Who Has the Cheapest Tiered Electricity Plans in Dallas?

Colder months are on the way, and the window for getting the cheapest electricity rates in Dallas is closing. With COVID and more people staying at home, the EIA predicts the demand for energy will increase this winter. That means rates could spike. Now is the time to shop for a new energy provider in Texas. To help make that easier for you, we’ve sorted out the three cheapest tiered electricity plans available in Dallas.

Cheapest Tiered Electricity from A Top-Rated Provider

12 Month Flat Tier Plan from Constellation offers an average electricity rate of 8 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. This is a four-tiered plan that charges $80 for the first 500 kWh of energy use. Then, you get “free electricity” between 501 – 1000 kWh. At 1000 kWh of use, you pay an additional charge of $80. Finally, you pay nothing for electricity between 1501 kWh and 2000 kWh. After 2000 kWh, your rate goes to 9.9 cents per kWh.

This plan is great for homes that use less than 1000 kWh or closer to 2000 kWh of electricity in each billing cycle. There are no additional fees or charges other than the very cheap early termination fee of $50.

Tiered Electricity with No Base Charge in Dallas

Easy Saver 12 from 4Change Energy offers an average energy rate of 7.9 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. This tiered rate electricity plan has a $79 charge for up 999 kWh of use. The rate changes to 14.9 cents per kWh after 1000 kWh. There’s no base charge and TDU charges are already included in that rate.

Which Provider Offers the Cheapest Tiered Electricity in Dallas?

Easy Bill 12 from Frontier Utilities offers a tiered electricity plan with an average energy rate of 7.2 cents per kWh. You pay a base charge of $72 per month and you pay nothing more for energy use up to 1000 kWh. After 1000 kWh, your electricity rate changes to 19.9 cents per kWh. This rate includes the standard TDU charges as well. Note that there is a $150 early termination fee with this plan.

What Happens at the End of My Electricity Contract?

Every tiered electricity plan on this list is a 12-month, fixed-rate plan that will bring you to the next shoulder month season for electricity in Texas next year. That’s important because you can shop for a new electricity provider in Dallas again at the end of your contract. Otherwise, you could be switched to a default electricity plan with variable (usually higher) rates.
