I find Pantone announcing their color of the year really fun. It’s the first trend for the following year that gets talked about and I like learning about why Pantone chooses the colors it does regardless of whether or not I am a fan.
Classic Blue: Pantone’s Color the Year
Last week, Pantone announced Classic Blue as their color of the year for 2020. I find myself ambivalent about the color. I don’t dislike it and I’m not like, “wow” either. I think in the months to come it is a color that will grow on me.
As per Pantone, Classic Blue is a shade that Instills calm, confidence, and connection. This enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser-like clarity, the shade re-centers our thoughts and fosters resilience. As technology continues to race ahead of the human ability to process it all, it is easy to understand why we gravitate to colors that are honest and offer the promise of protection. Non-aggressive and easily relatable, the trusted Classic Blue lends itself to relaxed interaction. Associated with the return of another day, this universal favorite is comfortably embraced.
Given that we are on the brink of a new decade and also going through very uncertain times, it’s a color we need right now. When I posted a photo of this color on Instagram, one of my friends wondered if the blue was chosen in support of the democrats. Interesting theory, but not one that can be substantiated.
