Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel: Exceeded Expectations

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

Having slept in hotels that have impressed us us with their youthful vibe and contemporary aesthetic, we honestly didn’t quite look forward to staying at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. But on the days and nights we spent there, our expectations were exceeded—we experienced a gorgeously classic room and unparalleled service from its staff. Read more…

LOCATION

Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel is situated in the area called Golden Triangle, making it within close proximity of Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC), the Petronas Towers, and the shopping mecca of Bukit Bintang. Within the vicinity of the hotel are the Medan Tuanku monorail station and the Dangi Wangi LRT station, connecting it to almost all of Kuala Lumpur’s places of interest. The monorail also links the hotel to KL Sentral, the city’s multimodal transport hub with direct rail and bus links to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

STYLE/CHARACTER

Sheraton is the largest and most global brand of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts portfolio, which it shares with popular brands like the St. Regis, W, Westin, and Le Meridien. With more than 440 hotels in 72 countries around the world, Sheraton “makes it easy for guests to explore, relax and enjoy the possibilities of travel through smart solutions and effortless experiences.”

When more modern hotels may already look somewhat generic, the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur has retained its distinct character—one that’s both classic and ostentatious, fitting for a hotel of its kind. The ostentatious lobby, with its grand staircase, marble flooring, big floral arrangements, and dark wooden panels, makes quite a first impression.

ROOMS

We stayed in a spacious Sheraton Club Room at the topmost floor of the hotel, and it had a sweeping view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Based on the initial photos we’ve seen, the hotel’s rooms seemed dated, but what welcomed us was much more than what we had in mind. Although the room may be deemed as classic, but it’s undoubtedly luxurious and certainly maintained well.

Among the room’s features is the Sheraton Signature Bed, which is one the hallmarks of a Sheraton stay experience. Having stayed in so many upscale hotels, including the fanciest ones, we found the Sheraton Signature Bed to be among the best ones we’ve slept on.

The bed is complemented by a range of top-class amenities, including a 40” LED TV, coffee and tea making facilities, an oversized writing desk, and a walk-in closet with safe. The marbled bathroom is immaculate and spacious, and it has a full-sized tub.

FACILITIES

Among the benefits of us staying in a Sheraton Club Room is access to Sheraton Club, a lounge with a tastefully elegant design. It offers complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails, and all-day refreshments—all of which we tried. In terms of catering, we found the selection to be generally tasty, although we’ve been to lounges with a greater variety of food.

Aside from Sheraton Club, the hotel also features Link@Sheraton, a connectivity hub with PC workstations with webcam, televisions, and comfy couches.

Other facilities in the hotel include Sheraton Fitness (gym), outdoor swimming pool, spa, business center, and 23,000 square feet of space for MICE.

FOOD AND DRINK

Aside from the exclusive Sheraton Club, we also took our breakfast at Essence, the hotel’s all-day international restaurant that has both an a la carte menu and a buffet. Their morning spread of Western, Asian, and Malaysian food is extensive, fitting for a five-star hotel.

SERVICE

Service was impeccable and truly five-star, especially at the Sheraton Lounge, where the staff anticipated our every need and attended to them with a smile. Service, we believe, is one of the strongest points of the hotel.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Rates at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel cost less than the other international five-star hotels in the city, and on many dates, they are a steal. Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) members get discounts at starwoodhotels.com on top of extra perks. Enrollment to the program is free.
