So when Teacher Syafiq revealed that we were going to paint CATS this time round, I think I almost heard Angel purr with joy and excitement.
In the second lesson, it was time to start on the final artwork. Once again, why am I not surprised, my girl chose pink for her background even though the teacher asked if she would like another color. After she used an oil pastel to draw the outline of her cat, it was time for more of her favorite activity - painting.
Using small, medium and big paint brushes, she was tasked to choose a color for every part of her cat, from the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, collar and so on. The only restriction Teacher Syafiq had was that she should try to avoid repeating colours and using foreground colours that would blend in with the background.
The last lesson was the time for detailing. Every kid could also choose a character for their cat and unique accessories to complement them. For instance, I saw a geek cat that had on specs, a sporty cat with a baseball cap, a dancer cat in a hip hop outfit, a girly cat with a hat and picnic basket and so on. For Angel, she wanted a princess cat.
Just when I was thinking that her yellow, patchy cat looked way too manly to have on a wand and tiara, I was fascinated and amazed to see what a world of difference details could make. Once she drew on the eyelashes, whiskers and the sparkle in the eyes, the cat instantly looked much more girly, real and I would even say, contented.
She ended off by drawing a heart-shaped wand and a cute little blue crown for the cat, followed by using oil pastels to add on some fur.
Ta-dah! And so she asked, what do you think of my Princess Cat, Mummy? Well, she's just as beautiful and as happy as you, my dear Angel.
In my next review, I will be sharing with you my heartfelt thoughts on how Angel has grown through all these months at heART Studio and how art has helped to open up her world. Stay tuned!
