I love doing what I can to be environmentally conscious. I'm not perfect, or anywhere near it, but I truly care about our planet and want to do what I can to reduce my own impact on it. So, when I heard about Scott® Tube-Free Bath Tissue from Rite Aid, I was so excited! Did you know that over 17 billion toilet paper tubes are used each year? That is enough toilet paper tubes to fill the Empire State Building - twice! Yikes! So for me, Scott® Tube-Free Bath Tissue was a no-brainer! Plus, it's sewer and septic safe, super soft, and is a simple way to protect our planet.
Since I was changing my toilet paper, I figured I'd get a little crafty and up-cycle a few old t-shirts I had laying around to create a shaggy t-shirt rug. Reusing these t-shirts, that would otherwise be thrown away, was another great way for me to reduce my impact on the planet while also making my bathroom a more inviting place. It was super easy to make and is a great addition to my simple, yet slightly eclectic bathroom.
To make your own shaggy t-shirt rug, you will need:
Old t-shirts in the color(s) of your choice
Scissors
Crochet Hooks
Rug Stop (with holes)
Directions:
First, you will need to gather 2-6 t-shirts. The amount depends on how big you want your rug to be as well as what sort of color scheme you prefer. Feel free to mix and match your t-shirts. I went with mostly white, but I liked how the t-shirts I used added in bits of color here and there.
Once you've gathered your t-shirts, cut off all of the seams, the sleeves, and the collar. Then, cut the t-shirts into 1" strips. Once you've got all of your strips cut, you'll cut those into 1"x4" strips. Next, measure your rug stop, and if needed - cut it down to your desired size. Then, settle in with a good movie while you use your crochet hooks to pull the strips of t-shirt through the rug stop and tie them in single knots. Once your rug stop is completely covered in t-shirt strips, you're done!
