Seven Social

Seven Social was one of my biggest surprises of the summer. I'd been hearing murmurings about a place on Benburb Street but it isn't an area I visit often, in fact, I usually only see Benburb Street from the windows of the Luas. A modest exterior hides a small and cozy interior lit with blue fairy lights and candles. A friendly waiter pointed us to a corner seat and we made ourselves comfortable, I was beginning to understand why this place was getting so much attention.

The menu is very seasonal so obviously it changes regularly. Have a look here for the most up to date version. To start M went for a strawberry and sheep cheese salad while I opted for the Balbriggan razor clam salad. Both dishes stunned us with how so much flavor can come from such simple ingredients.

The strawberries in M's salad were super ripe and juicy. They contrasted very well with the earthy saltiness of the sheep cheese. A light balsamic dressing drew out the flavours of both. It was one of those dishes that you don't want to end!

I know it sounds like an exaggeration but the razor clam salad was probably one of the best things I have ever eaten! It was such a light dish but had a huge amount of flavours. The clams were tender and the dressing had a great kick to it but it was still light. Really bliss!

With such good starters the main courses were always going to have a lot to live up to! M's onglet steak came with small fried potatoes and string onions. The cut of meat was lovely but the flavor just wasn't there, especially not after the wonderful starter!

I went for a fish dish which consisted of scallops and crab meat on a bed of potato. When I seen the dish I was really disappointed, after the beautiful starter the main course looked unappetizing. Thankfully though the flavours were good and the scallops were beautifully cooked. It tasted almost as good as the starter and with a bit of work on presentation it will be just as wonderful.

Seven Social was the first place in Dublin were I came across a white Rioja wine. We had a carafe with our food and it was really tasty, I've noticed it on a few other menus now too, it won't be long before I try it again.
The staff in Seven Social are wonderful and seem very dedicated. Our waiter was really friendly, he took the time to chat with us as he delivered our dishes and also at the end of the evening as we where leaving. We learned about the seasonal banquets that Seven Social often offer. They sound really spectacular and I'm looking forward to hearing more when they get their menus sorted, though I'm hoping there'll be no squirrel on the menu!
