Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Rudrika de Silva Hewawasam and Kahtagasdigiliya Magistrate Wimal Weerasinghe imposed fines amounting to Rs.880,000 on seven shopkeepers who were found guilty before the Court for selling rice at prices higher than the Government controlled price in violation of the Consumer Act.
Accordingly, out of these suspected shop owners, five were separately fined Rs.100,000 each, one shop owner was fined Rs. 130,000 and another shop owner was ordered to pay a fine of Rs.150,000.
