Segesta (Sestri Levante) is the queen of fairy tales: Hans Christian Handersen visited the town in 1833. He found about the local myth of Segesta, the mermaid, and her lover, the Triton. In 1837 published his most famous fairy tale ever: The Little Mermaid. He also named the western bay of Sestri Levante as “Fairy tales bay”. Since 1998, every year in June, Sestri Levante celebrates the Handersen literature prize.
