Score a Hole-In-One with Unique Prizes for Golf Events

Summertime and the golfin’ is easy.

But trying to select tee prizes and other giveaways for golf events isn’t as easy always.

With so many companies, chambers of commerce, community groups and nonprofits holding golf tournaments every year – especially during warmer summer months – players often receive the same swag at every event. After all, the National Golf Federation estimates 465.5 million rounds of golf were played in the United States in 2013. That includes business meetings conducted on the greens.

Although there’s nothing wrong with doling out branded golf balls, towels, ball markers and other accessories, there’s something amazing about presenting unique promotional products that line up with your integrated marketing strategy and hold relevancy for your audience.

“A great mix of golf and non-golf related tee prizes are guaranteed to bring satisfaction to both the participants and their loved ones at home,” says golf enthusiast and promotional products professional Robin Richter.

To go beyond the sand trap of been-there-have-that promotional items, consider the demographics of those who will be playing.

If your event falls in line with national statistics, the majority of players will be male. Only 19 percent of all golfers are women, according to the National Golf Foundation. Although fewer players at your event are likely to be women, they might appreciate prizes and promo items just for them, Richter says.

Understanding players’ lifestyles is another consideration when selecting promo products.

For example, if you want your message to carry well beyond game day, look for products players will bring back to their offices or homes and use regularly.

As Richter explains, “For those of us who do play in quite a few tournaments like myself, we are frankly tired of the usual… and would love to receive more functional, maybe techy type items that everyone has a use for.”

A popular item that fits this description is a three-in-one stylus, LED light and ballpoint pen. Custom USB drives also provide integrated marketers with promotional flash.

If your brand image is trendier, check out the latest in branded apparel, too. Visors and fabrics that protect wearers from sun damage and exposure are considerate choices for outdoor events.
