The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the 5-year imprisonment with hard labor imposed by the Ratnapura High Court on the convicts, including Sugath Dissanayake, the former Chairman of the Ratnapura PS, who committed violent acts in the area after the killing of the former Member of Parliament of Ratnapura District Parliament Nalanda Ellawala in 1997. Accordingly, six persons who were on bail were re-imprisoned.
