The stuff that warms my overly cynical gay heart. Openly gay judge, Tonya Parker has thrown down the gauntlet when it comes to wedding straight couples in Texas.
The Awesome Judge Parker
“I do not perform them because it is not an equal application of the law. Period,” she said, reports the NY Daily News. Parker is using this as way to discuss marriage equality and she isn’t afraid to let everyone know exactly how she feels, even if it is exuberant wedding couple.
Granted, she doesn’t crush their dreams wholeheartedly but she does throw down the gauntlet – in a more legal way.
“So I usually will offer them something along the lines of, ‘I’m sorry. I don’t perform marriage ceremonies because we are in a state that does not have marriage equality, and until it does, I am not going to partially apply the law to one group of people that doesn’t apply to another group of people,’” she explains.
Fight the good fight, Judge Parker – we here at BGA Life, salute you!
