Saturday Afternoons

By Winyeemichelle
Days out are few and far between these days due to a manic work diary and my newest attempts to save the dollah, so when Hannah invited the girl gang UK division to her digs for lunch, I gratefully took her up on the offer!
These slow and sunny afternoons are the ones that I treasure the most. No expectations, no loud brunch spot noise, no 90-minute table time, just good food, better company and more chatter than you could shake a stick at. Sunlight pooling through happily large windows and the opportunity to rifle through Hannah’s extensive travel book collection - we always pester her for recommendations, especially since Sophie’s headed to Poland and I’m off to Copenhagen soon!
Hannah rustled up the most amazing Middle Eastern feast with dishes from the Persiana: Recipes from the Middle East & Beyond cookbook and we feasted upon flatbreads and dips, an awesome baked eggs dish and tumeric-marinated chicken. Our soundtrack was the plentiful chatter of Brexit woes (I’m still reeling from that all), house updates and the sort of girly gossip that can never just be limited to our lively WhatsApp chat.
We took a late afternoon stroll along the river, right beside Putney Bridge, and soaked up a few of the generous rays that London had proffered to us that Saturday, watching on as numerous people prepared for the annual Boat Race.
London, you’re so deliciously beautiful in the spring sunlight.
