Facebook, hair straighteners and parking sensors have been hailed among the seven wonders of the modern world – by women. The weird and wonderful list, which contained everything from beauty items, food, gadgets and famous faces, was compiled following a poll carried out among 2,000 British women and men.

Other modern day ‘wonders’ for women include chocolate and SatNav, which 26% of women said they would be literally ‘lost without’.

Contactless payment – where you can pay for your purchase in a matter of seconds – and a steaming hot cup of tea also made it on to the coveted list.

Modern day wonders not quite making the elusive seven included Corrie, push-up bras, David Beckham’s six-pack and control pants.

By contrast, the same poll found that the modern man’s Seven Wonders of the World includes the iPhone, Sky+ and Holly Willoughby’s boobs.

An Xbox, Kelly Brook’s curves, 3D movies and a cold pint of lager were also on the list for men.

Not quite making the top seven list were Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, the 1998 movie Die Hard and electric shavers.

Steve Kitson, Director of Corporate Communications at Kia Motors UK, which carried out the poll to celebrate the anniversary of their seven-year warranty said:

”Parking sensors have made the troublesome parallel park a thing of the past, so we aren’t surprised they’ve been listed as one of the average woman’s Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

”And its clear women can’t go without a decent cup of tea and a bar of chocolate – so these things have definitely earned their ‘Seven Wonder’ status.

”But the research shows men are more reliant on technology and gadgets with the iPhone, Sky+, 3D movies and Xbox all making the cut.”

Additionally, the survey found a Modern Wonder of the World needs to be useful and innovative.

And one in five Brits said that the level of happiness something provides makes it qualify as a Wonder of the World.

Almost two thirds of adults think you need to have a lot of money if you want to own or get access to any of the Modern Wonders of the World.

However, both men and women would willingly give up TV for a week to get access to one of their wonders.

In addition one in five women would be more than happy to give up sex for a month if it meant getting access to their Wonders of the World.

A quarter of men would give up their friends to be able to get to their ‘Wonders’.

The survey also found that well over half of the respondents said the real, ancient Seven Wonders of the World could do with modernising with the research throwing up some confusion over the genuine articles.

A quarter thought Niagara Falls was one of the ancient Seven Wonders and nearly half were under the impression that the Great Wall of China had been granted the special honor.

Worryingly clueless Brits also thought London Zoo, Stonehenge and the Empire State Building were on the list.

Steve Kitson added:

”These new Seven Wonders of the Modern World can all be counted as useful and innovative, just like Kia’s award-winning seven year warranty.”
