Any flagship phone launched by Samsung is always an exciting news for tech enthusiasts. And if that device happens to be the slimmest Galaxy phone ever, then of course it is a news worth taking note of!
Yes, on 27th September in New Delhi, Samsung unveiled the slimmest galaxy phone yet. The device is called Alpha. And the highlight of Alpha is its style and appearance.
The look of Samsung Galaxy Alpha gives evidence to a new design approach by Samsung. Alpha is just 6.7 mm in thickness, thereby claiming the prestige of being the slimmest Galaxy phone ever. It has a soft back cover, a soft matte finish and slightly curved corners. But the most marked new design feature of Alpha is its metal frame that surrounds the device. No, Alpha does not have a metal body. But it does have a metal frame on the sides that adds to the style and strength of the device. As for the colors, Samsung galaxy Alpha will be available in Charcoal Black, Dazzling White and Frosted Gold colors.
However, mere looks don’t make a good phone, right? A phone has to perform well too. Looking at the specifications of Galaxy Alpha, it seems to have all the essentials right. It has Octa Core (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) or Quad Core 2.5GHz processor, Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) operating system, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage (non-expandable, it seems), and 1,860 mAh battery power. The display of Alpha is 11.9 cm (4.7”) HD Super AMOLED (1280 x 720) display.
Speaking at the launch of Galaxy Alpha, Mr. S.K. Kim, Managing Director, Sales, Samsung Electronics, India said, “As the market leader, Samsung has significantly contributed to the market growth by setting new benchmarks in offering the best-in-class technology and products. With the launch of Galaxy Alpha, Samsung is announcing a new design approach to satiate customer demands for an irresistibly stunning and stylish product. This revolutionary product will change the dynamics of the premium smartphone segment in India.”
And as per Mr. Asim Warsi, VP, Mobile & IT, Samsung India, “The Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumers. With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality combining a stunning metal frame and slim, lightweight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device.”
Galaxy Alpha is equipped with a 12 MP rear and 2.1 MP front camera. Camera features include Shadow free HDR, Phase Detection and Selective focus.
Galaxy Alpha also has many other useful features like the Ultra-Power Saving Mode which can keep the essential functions of the phone working for hours even when the battery has almost run out. Galaxy Alpha also has S Health features and the Heart Rate Monitor. Its security features include Private Mode which can be used to keep selected data private from all prying eyes. It also has a Finger Print Scanner which can be used to securely lock up the entry into the device, and also certain apps like Facebook etc. And yes, Alpha is fully compatible with Samsung’s wearable smartwatch range of Gear devices like Samsung Gear Fit, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and the recently announced Gear S wearables.
As for the connectivity options, Galaxy Alpha supports 4G, LTE CAT 6.
Now, of course, comes the all important question. What does it cost? Well, Alpha is a premium device and is priced at INR. 39,990/-. It will start being available in india from the first week of October.
