Title: Mass Effect 3 Format: PS3, 360, PC Release Date: March 6, 2012 Publisher: EA Developer: Bioware Price: $59.99 ESRB Rating: M
The mammoth that is Mass Effect has returned with the last game in the trilogy, Mass Effect 3.  With Uncharted 3 being released last year, Mass Effect 3 looks to take the crown early for Game of the Year.  With some great early reviews, I can see why other people are calling it nothing less than perfection.
Presentation/Story:
If you haven't played Mass Effect 1 or 2, you don't need to be reading this review.  You need to go pick those two games up.  The Reapers are invading the the galaxy and there coming for everything, and they aren't taking any prisoners.  Your job, as Sheperd, is to recruit help around the galaxies to fight the Reapers.  I won't spoil anything else for you, just know that the story in this sequel, is the best.  Graphically, the game is stunning in ever possible way.  Environments boom with activity, even in the demo you noticed action happening far away from Shepard.  Character models are highly detailed, with the occasional weird looking NPC character.  The new ME engine looks great and runs beautifully overall, its just not a big a jump as it may seem.  I popped in Mass Effect 2, and it still holds up quite well.  The voice acting is better than ever, with some old and new characters making a return.  Hearing Yvonne Stravhovski's voice as Miranda, is still pretty cool.  Bioware has heightened the production values in ME 3 more than ever, and it shows.
Core Gameplay/Multiplayer:
The gameplay is more of the same, from previous games.  Bioware is sticking with the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" style and it shows.  The basic cover gunplay is back, with just more polish and a few tweaks.  You can play the game, in a few ways.  You can be the bum-rushing Vanguard, or the more cerebral Biotic.  I love the basic soldier class myself, but you will find a class that suits you.  The new engine makes the gameplay more smooth and fast paced.  You can choose to import your character from ME 2, which continues your own unique story, with choices you have made still in effect.  There is multiplayer in the game, which is a first in the game, is no slouch in the entertainment aspect.  The Survival mode is your basic survive-each-wave type gameplay, its surprisingly fun.  Usually, I don't care for this kind of mode, but it was fun overall.  If you know the series, the gameplay will feel fight at home for you.
Final Thoughts:
Mass Effect 3 is another great game from the guys at Bioware, its a shame that this is the last game of the series.  With the best visuals and the tightest gameplay, its easily the best game of the series.  Its worth the full price of admission and more.
