Title: Awesomenauts Format: PSN, XBLA Release Date: May 1st, 2012 Publisher: Digital Entertainment Pool Developer: Ronimo Games Price: $9.99 ESRB Rating: E Awesomenauts is a online only multiplayer game that features fast paced team based combat with the likes from cool sounding cowboys to even cooler ninja lizards.
Presentation: Awesomenauts features cool little quirks that make it resembles your typical cliched saturday morning cartoon, and it looks very solid at that.  The game is very colorful, offering a wide variety of vibrant colors that can really show off your fancy 1080p HDTV.  Each character sprites are really crisp, with tons of detail down to the smallest detail.  The soundtrack in the game won't annoy when you first boot the game up, but it will gradually become a nuisance over time.  Luckily, you can skip the main title screen if you choose to do so.  The in game battle music is fine, its subtle and doesn't get in the way.  The small amount of voice overs are funny, I just wish there was more of it, I guess its because its a multiplayer only game.  Overall, the presentation and atmosphere in Awesomenauts is great. Core Gameplay and Multiplayer: When you get past the initial tutorial, you'll quickly grasp the easy concept the game has.  Once you choose your character, you are launched into the battle zone, Starhawk style.  Your team has to blast and slice there way through the opponents multiple turrets and get their home, wins the game.  Its simple but has a lot of layers wrapped into it.  During gameplay, you can access the shop, on the map, to upgrade your health, buy extra weapons, and upgrade those weapons.  The game is tough, and has a lot of balancing issues.  Other players who have a higher level than you can easily destroy you with little effort, while you try your hardest to make a scratch.  This is because the characters you unlock down the road are significantly better than the ones you start off with.  There are six characters in the game already, but the developers already stated that they are preparing to release more.  If you can make it past the first few hours of getting pwned, you'll have a blast.  Playing with friends is the best choice, a good team can take down any rival team. Final Thoughts: Awesomenauts is a good new game to sink your time into, even though its multiplayer only, its worth the ten dollar price tag.  If you're a playstation plus subscriber, its free, so go ahead and pick this one up. Final Rating = 7.5/10
