Its very rare to come across games that are unique and great, with current games all trying to cash out from all the latest trends, its good to finally play something different. Dyad is proof that you don't need hordes of zombies, or a M4 Assault Rifle with a reflex attached to have fun in a game.
The presentation in Dyad is the obvious star of the show, if you will. From beginning to end, the hallucinogenic images will have your eyes crying, but in a good way. I found myself playing the game a lot during the night, which I believe is the best time to play. The contrast between your surroundings and the bright colors pouring out of your screen will leave you, simply mesmerized. Your playing areas are nothing more than long cylindrical tubes of vibrant colors. I know that I had a lot of concern about how long it would take for me to get sick from all the visual monotony going on at once, but that never happened. When the game ramps up its speed, you're eyes will never feel overwhelmed. Probably one if the main reasons of this, has to be the incredibly solid framerate. It never dips, even when you're going top speed. With all the graphical praise, you can't overlook the stellar music. I actually love the music better than all the eye-popping visuals, but thats just me, I'm sure if you ask another person, they'll tell you different. The soundtrack just fits in beautifully in my mind, and I hope the developers choose to release the soundtrack separately so we can listen to the immersive tunes without having to turn the game on.
Now the gameplay in Dyad is pretty tough to describe to someone who hasn't played the actual game yet. The general goal of the game is to get to the end of the level as quickly as possible. You accomplish this by hooking your way through the level via the sphere shaped enemies. If you've played games like Just Cause 2, which I recently have, the gameplay is very similar to the slingshot mechanics with your trusty parachute. Let me digress from all the Just Cause comparions, if you're a trophy hunter, the game tells you clear cut on how too earn your precious trophies. After you complete one of the levels, you have the option of going back through the level a second time. During your second run-through, you will have a specific challenge for that level, complete the challenge, and the trophy is yours. You'll complete the 26 levels pretty quickly, even though the difficulty increases with every completed level. This game has score chaser written all over it, each time you finish a level, you can check where you rank among other players on the leaderboards. This simple feature adds so much more replayability to the game, and many opportunities to trash talk your friends.
Dyad is a great game, and an even better overall experience. With just the audio and visual high-marks of the game alone, its worth the purchase. If you're craving for something different, which we all need, you can't go wrong with Dyad.
