Sampling the Goods: When Paying Full Price Is Not An Option

By Shauntee @shaunteebattie

Everyday at 10:00 am, my phone alerts me that the samples sales for that day has begun. I’m subscribed to 3 websites that offer discount merchandise daily. Everyday brings a new designer with savings of up to 70% off retail. I ‘ve purchased quite a few items from sample sales and so far I haven’t been disappointed. I’ve gotten great deals on purses, jewelry, shoes, house ware, art, and even a teeth whitening system simply by logging on and clicking a button. I’ve found great deals on dutch ovens and some of them even offer great deals on luxury resorts in the United States….can you say weekend getaway! Today’s sale included Dr. Suess…green eggs and ham anyone? As with anything you purchase it is good to know what the original price of an item really is. It is my motto to never pay full price for anything! So take a look at what these 4 sites offered this pass week

This week Ruelala which is one of my favorites featured this Juicy Couture watch which retails for $125.00 (I checked) for $39.00 which is a steal. They also featured this adorable Betsey Johnson asymmetrical coat for $59.99 which retails for $250.00 on Betsey Johnson’s website. The coat would’ve been mine for the taking if Betsey’s clothes catered to us plus size beauties but somebody got a good deal this week! They also offered a 3 night stay  in a lake front log cabin at Lake Placid Lodge in New York. If Lake Placid rings a bell remember the movie “Lake Placid” in which a super sized gator terrorized the lake…

If patience is your middle name then Beyond the Rack is for you, unlike Ruelala, BTR shipping is super slow it takes 2-3 weeks for them to get your items in their warehouse and then another week or so for them to get it to you. I have ordered from them about 3 times and ended up cancelling one item because a month and 1/2 had passed and I still didn’t have my item. Customer Service was friendly and quickly gave me a refund. What I do like about BTR is that they offer a large variety of designers and also cater to us plus size girls by offering sales on designers like Seven who do cater to the thick and lovely. As I stated before you have to do your homework, this week they offered Coach and boy was it severely over priced both of the bags seen below were priced at over $250.00. I purchased the black bag last year at the Coach outlet in Charlotte, NC for $89.00 and seen the first bag for $139.00. The bebe Tristan platform is a deal for $59.99 because these are currently $120.00 on Zappos and $80.00 at DSW…I’m really attracted to leopard print shoes something about it screams sexy to me! Last week, they featured Michael Kors and had the berkley clutch for $159.00. I purchased the clutch at The Michael Kors outlet in Charlotte for $99.00. BTR is a great site with good deals on many products but not recommended if you’re shopping for a gift for someone and need it quickly. If you don’t mind waiting for your items, shop away.

Hautelook is my absolute favorite and I have probably ordered more from this site then any other. The shipping is quick and they also feature a variety of products that include weekend getaways as well. I have purchased Stila cosmetics, a variety of shoes, my Amrita Singh bracelets which cost $100.00 but I got them for $30.00 on Hautelook. This past week they featured Lucky Brand which included the Tatum Wedge  Bootie for $75.00 they retail for $169.00. I’m not into paying mega bucks for sunglasses but these Fendi sunglasses are HOT. Hautelook had these for $104.00 and they retail for $275.00. Last but not least, they featured a get away at The Lodge @ Santa Fe a Junior Suite for $80.00 a night. I instantly felt the need to pack my bags and take off to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a weekend of margarita and pure fun!

For the men who may read my blog from time to time, these web sites also feature many products for men which include clothing, watches, and gadgets. As I stated previously, it’s important to know the retail price of the items you’re considering purchasing so that you can be sure you’re getting a good deal. For the best merchandise it is best you log on at 10:00am when the sales start, I’m on central time. The good thing is that these sites also have iPhone apps so you can log on from anyplace at anytime and shop. So sign up and see what deals you may fine, paying full price is not an option….HAPPY SHOPPING!
