Saison Dupont Dry Hopping 2016 Brewers Gold

By I Think About Beer @ithinkaboutbeer

Another year another edition of Brasserie Dupont’s Saison Dupont Dry Hopping. This is the 4th year it’s been released in the United States. I’ve reviewed the previous 3 versions: Saison Dupont Dry Hopping 2013Saison Dupont Dry Hopping 2014, and Saison Dupont Dry Hopping 2015. Each year’s new edition starts life as the classic Saison Dupont until it gets a special dose of dry hopping.

Each year, brewmaster Olivier Dedeycker picks a new hop for the batch. In the past, he’s picked Triskel, Challenger, and Minstrel. This year’s choice is Brewer’s Gold hops grown in Germany.

Appearance: Hazy gold/orange, off white head, great retention.

Aroma: Straw, grassy, herbal, fruity, light earthy notes.

Taste: Lightly earthy, grainy, with a light peppery finish.

Overall Impression: This year’s version is a mix between Saison Dupont’s earthiness and a mild fruitiness from the Brewer’s Gold hops. It also has a nice grassy/herbal Euro hop character. While Brewer’s Gold may not be the most exciting hop on its surface, the results in the Saison Dupont prove it was a good choice and winning combination.

Availability: One Time Release but readily available where Saison Dupont is sold. Imported by Total Beverage Solutions.

6.5% ABV
