Vancouver quintet Said the Whale (@saidthewhale) drew a modest but effusive crowd at the Rock Shop on Saturday night, touring in promotion of their March release, “Little Mountain”. The group showed some breadth in their sound, from the tight and polished “We Are 1980″ to the sentimental folk harmonies of “Big Sky, MT”.
Steel Phantoms (@steelphantoms) opened the show strongly with some reverb-infused garage rock on melodic rails, while Howth (@howthmusic), at the middle of the lineup, was an unexpected gem, delivering an emotional punch and technical intensity that demanded full attention.
