Rustic Outdoor Wedding with an Earthy Vibe

By Eleni Balkouli @Love4Wed

The beautiful rustic outdoor wedding you are about to see is the perfect example of how a couple can really and truly make a wedding of their own… a wedding that most importantly and above all represents them as a couple. Yiota and George celebrated their love in the natural setting of the Cyprian countryside, amongst trees decorated with string lights and details that made their wedding have an earthy and warm vibe in such a natural way.

The bride shared with us:The truth is that I was a little hesitant with sharing our wedding… It seemed a little strange to me that someone would want to read about our wedding or someone else’s wedding… I would visit Love4Weddings when I was planning our wedding but I used to look at the photos and check out the vendors. It helped me a lot! But I wasn’t interested in reading about the wedding proposal … why would I want to read about someone else’s story… But then again, everybody is different right? Maybe because my answers would have been different, because my beliefs are different…People say that I am not a romantic, maybe because I didn’t need a wedding proposal, or a diamond ring… maybe because we squeezed the wedding date in our very busy schedules… maybe because I didn’t start planning our wedding 2 years in advance… maybe because I didn’t; want anything extravagant… But I believe exactly the opposite. I found my other half, my other self… the one to cuddle with. I found the person to be with, the one I want to live my life with, the one to have my family with… And then one day when I was sitting in my kitchen, he said “Great, let’s get married! When is it convenient?” You tell me now how romantic that is!”

“In the end he proposed to me a week before our wedding, with a wooden ring he made by himself, from a piece of wood from an olive tree, a pebble from the sea and… with lots of love. He came with his buddies to the bar where I was with my friends, they had a little too much to drink, (for encouragement!) and then dropped the ring under the bar’s deck! In the end he proposed (slightly tipsy!) with the best man’s ring! They found the ring two days later, but in order to do so, they had to tear apart the bar’s deck!”

“I met George almost 3 years ago on a weekend trip with our scout teams at a place called Lythrodontas. It was February and it was cold. We were gathered around a table drinking a local spirit called Zivania in order to get warmer! We were all teasing each other and somehow I convinced him to let me  drive his white Defender (my prince didn’t arrive in a white horse, rather on a white Defender!). Next morning I drove his car to Nicosia. After that weekend we had some common activities with our scout groups so we became friends and it just happened between us! Two months later, just like that… we were living together. Like it was the most natural to happen. It was so simple and yet so beautiful”.

“The best wedding decision was to involve our friends in the process of organizing and planning our wedding day, as well as making a lot of things by ourselves. Thankfully we did not spend time in between appointments with photographers and planners and decorators! Everything went smoothly and quickly”, the bride mentioned to us.

“We got married in the begging of the summer, in the chapel of St. Spyridonas in Pyrga. A small little church, hidden amongst the pine trees…”

“The best moment was when I arrived at the church. George was there waiting for me. Along waiting with George, were both our families, his friends, my friends, his scouts and my scouts. They were all standing there, laughing and watching us with happiness, banging their drums like a big family! And suddenly it wasn’t his family and my family. It was our family, our friends, our scouts. All together as one. We were not separated in 2 different families, but we were rather as one! So you see… I am romantic after all!”

“For our wedding, we wanted something simple and to be as close to nature as possible. We wanted something different. Not to be unique but we wanted our wedding to be ours that would represent our characters. We decided to have our wedding in the olive groove that belonged to our family. A very familiar setting. The thought behind it was to add a few more beautiful memories that we can share with our children whenever we visited. Simple wooden tables in between the trees decorated with olive branches and candles. For our wedding guests we had olives and olive oil from our olive grove. And all this under numerous string lights. Just the absolute necessary details”.

“Additionally, as I mentioned before, we had a lot of DIY projects with friends and family. We folded the maps, we put the invitations in the envelopes, we filled jars with olives and olive oil, we cut fabrics, pinched holes in small tags and tied with a little rope, filled bags with rice and olive leaves, we filled little jars with soil and then put candles in them, we made wooden paths, ramps, fencing, every little bit of knowledge and know how from being a girl scout. It took a lot of time and effort but we surely enjoyed every moment….”

“Our photographer (Antonis Georgiadis) and videographer (Anthony Moroza) were the first vendors that we booked. I knew them since 2011 from my sister’s wedding. They are the best in what they do, very talented and exceptional individuals. For me that was really important because it’s not only the outcome that matters but the entire process…. Andronikos from Food2Impress was most helpful and genuine… He had everything: tables, chairs, dance floor, lanterns, drinks, food… He was setting up things with us, 3 days before the wedding and then 2 more days after to undo everything. Our wedding Dj, Marios was a friend of a friend of George’s and he was the best Dj we had ever heard at a wedding. He plays the music you wanted to hear before you even know what you want to listen to! Our dance floor even though its large size, it was packed. Guests were even dancing around the dance floor. Our wedding invitations were made by Maria, a friend of my sister. The choreography and the dance lessons were courtesy of Maria’s husband. The wedding cake was done by Yianna’s Cakes and it was the most delicious naked cake I ever had! Last but not least, the wedding dress was made by my sister Lana”

“My wedding dress was created my older sister Lana. When I told her that we were getting married, she started organizing to find fabrics, to make the dresses… although in her mind, I am sure she had everything already planned. She was giving birth in the clinic and she brought me different laces for me to pick from. She was really excited, sometimes even more than me! As the wedding time came closer and I had no free time to waste, I noticed she was getting worried… so I told her that she probably knew better what to do and how I wanted my wedding dress. I told her: “Make your dress, make my wedding gown and give me a call when to try it on…” She ended up making two wedding dresses that may seemed simple at a first glance however had incredible details and so much work put into it. It was exactly what I wanted! The first wedding dress was made with Sophie Hallete French lace and Chantilly Solstiss silk and was hand-sewn. The second one was made with silk Chantilly and silk tulle…”
