We rummaged through the warehouses with both Jimmy and Eddy Russell to dig out this single barrel of Wild Turkey, cask #376, and instantly pulled the trigger once we tasted it. The bourbon has a round and mouthcoating texture, combined with loads of spice and oak char. Originally filled in November of 2008, we bottled this baby right around its ninth birthday, about the time Jimmy Russell believes these Wild Turkey whiskeys show their best.
Emptied at 113.7 proof, everything about this whiskey showcases the textbook and trademark characteristics of the distillery style: loads of baking spices, vibrant oak tannins, creamy corn, and a finish of both savory pepper and sweet vanilla. Getting to select a barrel like this with the father and son duo is about as fun as our job gets–if you don’t count the part where we actually get to drink it. Only 216 bottles from this barrel, so grab one while supplies last!

Good balance, medium body and an oily feel.
Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon #376 Review: OVERALL
Muted and not as complex as other SiBs I’ve had, especially from K&L, this Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon #376 sits on the lower end of a regularly high quality label. I’m not saying that it’s low quality or a lowly whiskey, I’m saying that it’s an averagish whiskey. It’s something that registers well and I’d drink any day of the week, but I have several open WT SiBs I’d rather drink.
The aroma and palate are both oak forward as you’d expect, but they don’t have that depth I look for and am accustomed to. There’s something missing to me and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Though even with that something missing it’s better than some whiskies get, even when they have everything.
