Rupture or Rapture – The Future of America
I look at life through the eyes of a citizen, a career journalist, and a Christian. No matter how I look at our future as citizens of the United States of America, I come away believing we are closer to either a ‘rupture’ in our society or the ‘rapture’ of God’s people.

Rupture
I wrote about my concerns decades ago. Things in our country have not improved since then. In fact, they have become much worse. As I wrote a few years ago –
“We know from historical records that as many as 30 major civilizations have collapsed during the past several thousand years (also called Societal collapse). That doesn’t include the countless rise and fall of tribes and smaller people groups. Some civilizations reinvented themselves while others were absorbed into other societies.” Warning and Lament – The Collapse of Civilizations, p 3
Interestingly, the United Nations and World Economic Forum have mentioned the year 2030 as a key to their plans for a ‘Great Reset’ in the world. The United States would play an important role in that ‘reset’ since we have a large population, massive economy, and have been a major ‘superpower’ in the world for decades. Many researchers go further to say that the United States could suffer some type of collapse or major societal change within the next ten to twenty years that would impact the country’s ability to continue as a leading nation in the world. While we might think that civilization collapse is caused by external violence, British historian Arnold Toynbee wrote in his massive A Study of History that — “Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder.”
Rapture
Another interesting note is that Christians will soon celebrate two-thousand years since Jesus died on the Cross, rose from the dead, and ascended to the Throne of Heaven. Before Jesus ascended to Heaven He promised His disciples that He would return for them in a way that people could see with their eyes. His angels also attested to that fact –
“Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11
The Apostle Paul revealed a mystery years later that Jesus would come for Christians in the ‘twinkling of an eye’ so that they could join Him ‘in the air.’ His coming at that time would not be ‘visible’ to the world. It would be just for His people –
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Though Christians have some disagreements on when Jesus will return, they agree that He will return. We don’t know the hour or day of His return, but we do have His promise that He’s coming back. The fact that Jesus began His earthly ministry almost two-thousand years ago causes many Christians to wonder if His coming may be VERY soon.
Which Happens First?
Though many people believe the United States is ‘post-Christian,’ America is one of the nations with a high percentage of Christians compared to other countries in the world. If America ‘ruptures,’ then Christians living at that time will depend on God in ways they may have never experienced before. However, if the ‘rapture’ occurs first the loss of tens or hundreds of millions of Christians here in the United States and across the world will have a powerful impact on the world. Either way – we as Americans are headed toward something truly historical and spiritual.
If you have not seriously considered the claims of Jesus Christ on your life, I urge you to do so without delay. I am a former atheist who mocked Christians for their beliefs. However, I became a disciple of Jesus Christ after thoroughly investigating the claims of the Bible . That was more than 50 years ago. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for everyone to do the same. Be sure that you have strong ‘evidence’ for what you believe about God and life after death.
“… if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
