ABOUT: A bit of info from Odell:
Bridging the Baltic and Caribbean Seas, Jolly Russian is a rich Russian Imperial Stout stowed away in Rum Barrels for aging. Dark as night and thick as the raging sea, this brew boasts notes of coffee and cocoa with waves of oak, spiced molasses, dried fruit and vanilla from the planks. It’s dangerously delicious!
MY THOUGHTS: Jolly Russian is the perfect example of Russian Imperial Stout, yet with an interesting twist: most Russian Imperial Stouts I’ve seen have been aged in bourbon barrels, whereas this one is rum-aged. I think this is my favorite Russian Imp. Stout ever! And it’s just in time for the fall and winter seasons. Since it’s barrel-aged and over 13%, it’s definitely a sipper. The rum is quite noticeable and blends very well with the strong flavors of the beer. It will warm your insides on a chilly night. If you’re a fan of stouts and/or strong beers, give this delicious new stout a try. It won’t be around long, so catch it while you can. Check your local liquor store, or search with Odell’s Beer Finder to help you find what you’re looking for.
