RTS go to Tanzania for Charity CLIMB
Support RTS's Team Redmond today in aid of BLESMA
Throughout 2014 RTS Waste Management Limited, Crossways Recycling and Wasteology are all supporting a fantastic charity called BLESMA. Raising as much money as they can from British Limbless Ex Service Man's Association.
The inspiration to climb Kilimanjaro came from the Managing Director Mark Redmond. Although Mark had conquered the summit just last July he wanted to share the experience with two of his sons Joe and Luke Redmond. Joe works in the Transport Department at RTS London and Luke is currently serving with the army in the Joint Helicopter Support Services JHSS.
Team Redmond in February 2014
In February 2014 the three wise men (Team Redmond) left the very wet UK and traveled to Tanzania. The journey was far from the comforts of home and the slow trek with a group of 30 other like-minded hikers began their journey to the highest peak in Africa. Taking more than 3 days to reach the summit.
February is meant to be the best time of year for such a challenge, hence it is popular. However the weather soon began to demonstrate how treacherous the climb can be. The photos incorporated in the slide sow below all look fantastic, just remember you can't easily take photos in rain, hail and temperatures of -12. Received a few texts at the end of each day soon became clear how hard it was. Here is a snippet from one text sent by Mark one evening:
“ We are now at Karanga camp. The heaven has opened up with hale and rain so we are soaked including our gear! I have a river running under my tent, not pleasant! I can tell you temperature has dropped also. This is supposed to be the best time of the year!!!”
Relpy sent back was " Not much different to Somerset then!"
The launch of the BLESMA campaign only started end of January and at the time of posting this article the total has reached over £4,000. The target is to get to £10,000 by the end of 2014. You can still donate by visiting the Virgin Money fundraiser page click HERE
Please see some fantastic photos taken by Geoff Sharp the Redmond personal trainer and good friend that accompanied Team Redmond to these great heights. Congratulations to Mark, Joe and Luke for such a valiant effort and reaching their goals.
